But she did look back and I love her for that because it was so human.
~ Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five
Hello, I’m Tisha.
I was born in a sleepy Indiana town to the local grocer and a teacher. We had Friday nights at home and Saturday afternoons at my Grandma’s table. I majored in philosophy and psychology, which just about explains everything. I’ve traveled from the fjords of Norway to a blue lagoon in Belize and a hundred places in between. They have all shaped me.
When I was eleven, I wanted to be a ballerina. Or a writer for Sassy magazine. Instead, I forged a path as an advocate and coach in the violence prevention field. I have written grants and sat in courtrooms and listened to hundreds tell their connection to power based personal violence. These are the stories I carry and the words that fuel me always.
I have been a coach for 12 years and self-employed for nine. In that time I have worked with more than 300 clients and taught in more than 25 states. It all started with a classified ad, an extra bedroom in my cousin’s apartment and a mixed tape filled with Ani DiFranco, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Alanis Morissette.
We all have two lives. The second one starts when we realize we only have one.
~ Tom Hiddleston
Today, I am an advocate for soul songs and reinvention and that second life that Tom Hiddleston speaks about. For weekends in Malibu and fireside magic and outlaw letters. I still work with free spirits and brave hearts and change makers. And I believe all of our stories and wanderlust dreams mean everything.
